National Minority Quality Forum Launches AskAboutATTR.org to
Empower Communities with Knowledge on Rare Heart Condition

New partnership with BridgeBio Pharma, Inc. expands education and awareness
for ATTR-Cardiac Amyloidosis

Washington D.C. (November 13, 2025) — The National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) recently announced the launch of AskAboutATTR.org, a new online resource designed to help individuals and families learn about ATTR-cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CM)—a rare but serious form of heart failure often overlooked or misdiagnosed.

In partnership with BridgeBio, NMQF developed the platform to promote early detection, informed discussions with healthcare providers, and culturally tailored education about ATTR-CM, a condition caused by the buildup of unstable proteins in the heart.

Through accessible language, visuals, and shareable materials, the AskAboutATTR.org campaign invites people—especially those in Black and underserved communities disproportionately affected by ATTR-CM—to better understand symptoms, genetic risk factors, and the importance of talking to their health care provider about screening.

“Raising awareness about ATTR-CM is part of our larger mission to close the information gap in rare and chronic diseases,” said Adjoa Kyerematen, Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at NMQF. “Everyone deserves access to culturally relevant, plain-language resources that make complex health information easier to understand—and that’s exactly what AskAboutATTR.org delivers.”

AskAboutATTR.org features downloadable fact sheets, symptom body maps, and a social media toolkit developed in collaboration with BridgeBio to help patients, caregivers, and advocates raise awareness both online and in their communities. The resources were developed using insights from a listening session held with patients and community members in Chicago, Baltimore, and New Orleans. Participants expressed the need to know what questions to ask health care providers and resources that give a simple explanation of ATTR-CM.

Key materials include:

  • “Know Your Heart” Tear Pad: outlines common symptoms—from shortness of breath and irregular heartbeat to carpal tunnel syndrome—and includes guided questions for provider discussions.
  • Understanding ATTR-CM Terminology Guide: defines key medical terms like transthyretin, genetic testing, and nuclear scintigraphy to help patients feel confident during appointments.
  • Social Media Toolkit: offers ready-to-share posts and hashtags (#ATTRCMAwareness, #KnowATTRCM, #HeartHealth) to amplify awareness across platforms.

“BridgeBio’s collaboration with NMQF reflects our shared commitment to equity in health education. AskAboutATTR.org makes information about ATTR-CM accessible, empowering, and truly meaningful, helping communities recognize symptoms earlier, seek care sooner, and feel supported every step of the way,“ said  Sabina Ndakorerwa, Senior Director of Community Engagement at BridgeBio. ATTR-CM is caused by misfolded transthyretin (TTR) proteins that build up in the heart, leading to stiffness and heart failure. The disease can be hereditary (variant ATTR-CM) or develop with age (wild-type ATTR-CM). Black individuals with the V122I gene variant are at higher risk, making early recognition and testing critical for improved outcomes.
