WASHINGTON, D.C. April 25, 2022—Today, National Minority Quality Forum’s Center for Sustainable Health Care Quality and Equity (SHC) announced that Saria Saccocio, MD, has joined as its Chief Medical Officer.

In her role, Dr. Saccocio will work to expand SHC’s DRIVE – Demonstrating Real Improvement in Value and Equity – program, which was developed to help primary care teams, healthcare systems, and community organizations improve health outcomes for diverse and underserved populations across the United States while enhancing quality performance in practices and health care systems.

Laura Lee Hall, Ph.D., President of SHC, said she is delighted that Dr. Saccocio has joined the team.
“Saria brings a commitment and passion for achieving health equity through quality improvement, education, and public health programming that is unrivaled. She is a world-class medical expert who will undoubtedly help us take SHC’s Health Equity Network to the next level,” she said. “Dr. Saccocio has demonstrated a consistent history of leading award-winning programs and improving patient care and safety across the continuum as a Chief Medical Officer for health systems in the southeast.”

Recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the top 100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know, Dr. Saccocio said she is elated to join SHC.

“As an alum participant of DRIVE, I have experienced first-hand the value this learning community provides to partnering health systems through sharing best practices, data collection, and teaming up against health disparities,” she said. “We have the opportunity today to expand our efforts in improving health outcomes across patient populations and ensuring that health equity is a long-term journey, rather than a popular short-term initiative. Together, we can make a big difference.”

Dr. Saccocio received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida, and her Executive Master of Health Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Miami before opening her own solo family practice. She continues to serve patients at the Greenville Free Medical Clinic.

Her extensive civic and community involvement has included serving with many organizations such as: the Modern Healthcare Women Advisory Board, board member of the Pisacano Leadership Foundation, South Carolina Hospital Association, United Way of Greenville County; Greenville Free Medical Clinic, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate, the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Board, and is an Alum of the Women’s Leadership Institute and the Diversity Leadership Institute at Furman University. Dr. Saccocio has also been elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
