Washington D.C. (October 15, 2025) — The National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) is proud to announce that the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) has selected the abstract titled Building Kidney Health Equity Through Community-Centered Advocacy: A Model from the Nephrologists for Equitable Kidney Care (NEKC) Initiative for poster presentation at ASN Kidney Week 2025, the world’s largest nephrology conference.
The abstract (poster board #TH-PO0986) will be presented during the Diversity and Equity in Kidney Health poster session on Thursday, November 6, from 10:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Launched in 2024, the NEKC Initiative is a physician-led program under NMQF that seeks to address long-standing disparities in kidney care through data-driven advocacy, mentorship, and engagement. Through data utilization, community-based advocacy, and professional networking, NEKC aims to ensure equitable access to optimal kidney care in historically marginalized communities.
“This selection underscores the urgent need to address inequities in kidney health through patient-centered, collaborative action,” said Kelelaye Emiru, lead author and Vice President for the Center for Professional and Strategic Alliances at NMQF. “NEKC offers a scalable model for how data, advocacy and collaboration can come together to ensure equitable access to optimal kidney care. We’re honored to share this work with the nephrology community at ASN Kidney Week.”
ASN Kidney Week convenes over 10,000 kidney professionals annually to showcase research, innovation, and collaboration across nephrology.
